A visionary family

Cofem’s history begins with the vision of Daniel Fernandez and M. Dolores Moreno, who opened an automotive parts and accessories store in Barcelona. A market research on car fire extinguishers laid the foundations of our future, orienting the business towards fire protection, something very innovative in those years. In 1975, we began to carry out the first fire protection engineering studies from offices annexed to our premises/warehouse, and in 1981 we acquired our first industrial building in Rubí (Barcelona) to expand production.

Expansion and commitment to innovation

In 1982 our Electronic Detection division and R&D department was born, giving way to the production of detectors and electronic control panels designed to meet the needs of the market.

Since then, we have reinforced each stage of our growth with constant investments in technology and production capacity:

• 1995: Incorporation of the second generation, with Magnolia Fernandez, and creation of an export department that today takes our solutions to more than 50 countries in four continents.

• 1999: We expanded our facilities from 500 m² to 1,800 m², modernizing the automatic cutting and drawing line.

• 2004: Implementation of a new welding system with automatic robots to improve product quality.

• 2011: Expansion of the electronics area with the acquisition of modern SMD lines, taking innovation to another level.

• 2015: Complete renovation of the facilities and opening of offices in Valencia, Madrid and the Canary Islands, to be closer to our customers.

• 2019: Incorporation of a robot manipulator to optimize the detector assembly line.

• 2020: Relocation of the headquarters to new facilities of more than 4,000 m² in one of the largest industrial parks in the country.

• Member of Tecnifuego, the Spanish association that brings together the main fire protection companies.

• Participation in the CTN23 (Technical Standardization Committee) of AENOR, contributing to the development of PCI standards at national level.

• Representation of AENOR in CEN/TC72, the European body in charge of establishing mandatory EC standards in the field of construction and fire safety.

• Membership of the Clúster de Seguritat Contra Incendis de Catalunya, joining forces with other companies and the Administration to promote innovation in the sector.
